Why Scarlet Witch Probably Won't Get A Solo Movie, According To Elizabeth Olsen
It's a very exciting time for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the studio is still riding high on the massive success of Black Panther, all eyes are on what horrors and excitement will come when Avengers: Infinity War finally arrives in theaters. With so many of the shared universe's main cast reaching the end of their contracts, it seems like just about anyone could die in the next two Avengers movies. The future of the MCU beyond Avengers 4 is a total mystery, with the potential for solo movies happening for characters like Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. But Elizabeth Olsen, who plays fellow heroine Scarlet Witch, doesn't seem concerned with getting a movie of her own. As she tells, it,
We are at ground zero...It's definitely not something I'm pushing. I don't know if it's something they're going to push either. Paul Bettany and I joke about having like a domestic television show on Netflix or something...It would just be like house event, where Scarlet Witch goes bananas. That's what we joke about, but I don't think either of those things are happening. I'm happy that I'm still around and they still use me well, and that's fine.
While Scarlet Witch is probably one of the heroes least likely to perish in the ultimate battle against Thanos, Elizabeth Olsen doesn't think she'll get her own solo movie anytime soon. In fact, the concept was so foreign that it's become a recurring joke between she and Paul Bettany (aka Vision).
Elizabeth Olsen's comments from her appearance on the podcast Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino, and show that the actress plans on sticking around the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the long haul. Infinity War will mark her third appearance in the shared universe, and she's also set to appear in the conclusive (and still untitled) Avengers 4.
While Scarlet Witch is a fascinating and powerful addition to the MCU, she's one of the supporting characters that only appears in large ensemble projects. She made her debut in Age of Ultron, and popped up for an interesting arc in Captain America: Civil War. She, like Hawkeye, Falcon, and War Machine, have mostly helped to fill out the ranks of The Avengers, while not necessarily being the main focus on any blockbuster.
Narratively, Elizabeth Olsen has some fun dynamics to play with for Wanda's next two Marvel appearances. She, along with the rest of Team Cap, have spent two years presumably on the run after escaping from The Raft. There is also the underlying connection between Wanda and Vision, which may end before it can begin thanks to the Mind Stone currently in his forehead, and Thanos' plans to collect them all.
