Chris Hemsworth Claims Avengers 4 Will Be 'More Shocking' Than Infinity War
There were a lot of people who were shocked by the ending of Infinity War. Even for people who sort of knew about Thanos and the Infinity Stones from the comics, the ending of Avengers: Infinity War was pretty ballsy, specifically because it ended on a note -- and SPOILER -- where the heroes lost and the major villain won. That also meant ramifications for some fan-favorite Avengers, as they disappeared before our eyes on the big screen. However, Chris Hemsworth revealed in a recent interview that we ain't seen nothing yet. In fact, if we thought Avengers: Infinity War was shocking the upcoming Avengers 4 should be "even more shocking," per Hemsworth,
If you were shocked by [Infinity War], I think the second one is even more shocking, for other reasons entirely. That's what kind of blew me away the first time I read both scripts, is how they managed to orchestrate so many different characters but give them each their own separate shot and moments, and have it be elevated and feel fresh and unique---not just like a messy, thrown-together assembly of these guys.
Combining the regular Avengers actors with some of Marvel's other finest, including Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy was always going to be an interesting combination, but as Chris Hemsworth noted to Esquire, it could have been a "messy" one. Instead, we got a tightly woven storyline that still let its characters breath and bring their own unique personalities to the table. As for what Avengers 4 will do, Hemsworth also seems to be saying the movie will up the ante even more moving forward. More on that, below.
At this point most -- but not all -- of the Marvel actors are pretty good about talking upcoming projects without giving away any big or even minor spoilers. However, sometimes just the sheer energy and excitement an actor has for a project is enough to get me on board, and that's what's happening with Chris Hemsworth's comments, here. That's a far cry from Hemsworth previously saying he got bored playing Thor, and he seems to be even more excited about Avengers 4 than he was about Avengers: Infinity War. He said:
The second one I'm probably even more excited about. Just for people to see. I just think it's another step again. Each step we seem to take with these films, I've loved the fact that there's been growth and evolution and it continues to surprise people as opposed to sort of flatlining, which was obviously always a fear---that they'd run out of ideas or run dry of creative excitement. For me, this whole experience has been incredible. In particular the last one.
What Hemsworth is saying echoes what writer Christopher Markusrecently said about how Avengers 4 will be different than what people expect. As for Hemsworth's experience, both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 were shot back-to-back, and a crazy number of actors were able to film scenes and spend time together. The movie is on an epic scale, and as such it stands to reason that the actors would have had a blast as the movie was coming together. (Although hard work was obviously involved, as well.) Jury's still out on whether or not Thor 4 will ever be a reality, and whether or not Taika Waititi would be involved if it was, but for now, you'll be able to catch Thor at least one more time when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
