Ethan Hawke Thought Robin Williams Hated Him During Dead Poets Society

Having already left his mark on TV with Mork & Mindy, Robin Williams spent the 1980s building his film career, with Dead Poets Society being his final movie of that decade. Dead Poets Society saw Williams' John Keating teaching English at the Welton Academy, and some of his students formed a new version of the group from which the movie took its name. One of the members was played by a young Ethan Hawke, but as the actor recalled, he and Williams didn't have the greatest dynamic on set because Williams spent so much time improvising and trying to get a laugh out of his costars, while Hawke was trying to remain serious. As Hawke explained:

I really wanted to be a serious actor. I had read Stanislavsky and I had what was supposed to be in my pockets and I really wanted to be in character, and I really didn't want to laugh. The more I didn't laugh, the more insane he got. He would make fun of [me]. 'Oh this one doesn't want to laugh.' And the more smoke would come out of my ears. He didn't understand, I was trying to do a good job. I want to be Montgomery Clift over here, you're trying to be Zero Mostel or something. So I thought he hated me because he would constantly lay into me. No sooner would action start and he would lay into 'Todd' over here. That was my character's name.

While Robin Williams was a versatile performer, he definitely loved to improvise on many of his projects, particularly the comedic ones. Dead Poets Society obviously fits nicely into the drama genre, but that doesn't mean fun couldn't be had during the filmmaking process. As Ethan Hawke acknowledged during his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Williams was incredibly funny, relaxed and inventive, and whenever he made the crew laugh, the more encouraged he became. At the time, Ethan Hawke had only appeared in two other movies, so I can't blame him for trying to present himself as mature and professional so that he could make a good impression. However, that ultimately led to Williams giving him a hard time, although from the way Hawke tells it, it wasn't due to any hatred, but merely because he wasn't enjoying Williams' antics like everyone else.

While Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke's relationship might have initially seemed factious, thankfully the story has a happy ending. After Dead Poets Society wrapped up and Hawke went back to school, he received a call from Williams' agent, who told him that Williams had suggested that he sign him, saying Hawke was going to "be somebody." So thanks to Williams, Hawke got his first agent, who still works for him today, and thus had an indirect hand in Hawke's acting career taking off.

Robin Williams sadly passed away in August 2014, but his work continues to be enjoyed and appreciated across the world. As for Ethan Hawke, he can next be seen playing Tucker Crowe in Juliet, Naked. When Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Might Open

In an absolutely shocking move, Disney yesterday rehired James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn was fired from his position last year after poor-taste decade-old social media posts resurfaced. Fans, filmmakers, and actors voiced their displeasure over the decision at the time. Now, Gunn is back in the director's chair, but this does raise some questions about when Vol. 3 will hit theaters.

By our calculations, it's possible that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won't arrive in theaters until 2023, due to James Gunn's new commitment to DC and The Suicide Squad.

After James Gunn was let go by Disney, it wasn't that long until Warner Bros. scooped him up to write and direct the Suicide Squad reboot. It was a big story at the time that one of Marvel's most prominent directors made the jump to DC. Even though Gunn is back with Marvel, his Suicide Squad movie is reportedly still on, and Marvel is willing to wait for Gunn to wrap that project to finally move forward with Vol. 3.

The Suicide Squad is currently expected to begin filming this fall with a release date set for August 2021. That means Gunn probably won't be able to start production for Vol. 3 until either late 2021 or early 2022. Marvel's normal production schedule usually takes about one year, so that puts Vol. 3 in theaters by 2023 -- six years after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Thankfully, there may already be some shortcuts Vol. 3 can take. James Gunn had already finished the script before he was fired. There are no doubt some rewrites and tweaks still left to be done, but at least there's a complete draft of the screenplay.

Of course, this is all assuming that The Suicide Squad keeps its release date and shooting schedule. Whether or not that gets pushed backward or forward really impacts what Vol. 3 will do and how much focus James Gunn can devote to it.

As of now, Marvel doesn't have any films slated to release in 2023. It has three films slated for 2022, but it's unclear which of its in-development projects will be attached to the dates. The other films that Marvel has in the pipeline are Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, and the inevitable but still unannounced Captain Marvel 2. A movie like Guardians 3 will likely need that prime May real estate, so we will have to wait and see how Marvel's schedule shakes out.

There used to be a big question mark on Guardians 3, but now it's just a little bit smaller as fans can relax knowing the franchise is back in James Gunn's hands. We'll be paying close attention to how this all shakes out so stick with CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated.

If there's one thing that the Deadpool franchise is known for (other than smartass humor and gratuitous violence), it is the A+ marketing campaigns. We have seen Wade Wilson take over a wide variety of brands and lend his particular sense of humor to all sorts of formats, but the latest promotion for Deadpool 2 is simultaneously one of the grossest and one of the best. Specifically, we now know that Deadpool 2 has teamed up with the folks at Trolli Candy to allow consumers actually to eat Wade Wilson's tiny hands. Check out the promo video, below.

It's short, sweet and to the point. In a world where fans go crazy for tie-in merchandise, it looks like Deadpool 2 is getting in on the action by partnering with Trolli Candy. Starting on May 7, fans of Wade Wilson and his particular brand of sensuality will be able to buy (and eat) tiny Deadpool hands by the handful.

Of course, there's something not specifically mentioned in this video that fans of the original Deadpool know: Wade Wilson has a unique hobby with that tiny hand. If you have seen the first film, then you already know that Wade likes to use the tiny hand to get... familiar with himself in private, along with his crocs and his stuffed unicorn. This is only the latest in a long line of clever promotional material for Deadpool 2.
