One Star Wars Experience Ron Howard Wishes More People Could Have
It's a very good time to be a Star Wars fan. With Disney now in charge of the beloved property, there is a ton of new and exciting content coming from the galaxy far, far away. Although the fans are still recovering from the wild ride that is Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the next standalone will arrive in a matter of days. Solo: A Star Wars Story will help expand the galaxy far, far away, and show how characters like Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca came to know each other. Ron Howard completed the project after taking over for original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, and he recently revealed one onset moment he wishes all Star Wars fans could experience.
J.J. did such a good job, and Rogue One was an interesting experiment; to me that's opened up a channel, an invitation. I wish more directors could have an opportunity to be directing a scene that includes Chewbacca and be able to say, 'Hey, great job,' and then have Chewbacca pick you up and hug you. More people should have that.
Because Ron Howard is such a massive fan of the Star Wars franchise, being able to work with iconic characters and settings within the universe is especially fulfilling. Since he didn't have to break ground as the first standalone movie or first new sequel, Howard seems especially grateful to both J.J. Abrams and Gareth Edwards.
Ron Howard's comments to IMDB really hammers home what a big fan he is of the beloved space opera. First arriving back in 1977, the property has been passed down from generation to generation. There are a ton of emotions tied to the galaxy far, far away-- and this includes Howard himself. While he may be making major decisions for the franchise, the director still gets excited about moments with everyone's favorite Wookie, Chewbacca.
Chewbacca is being set up as a major character in Solo, which is definitely exciting for the OG fans out there. While Chewie was present in both The Force Awakes and The Last Jedi, the supporting characters from the original trilogy have been mostly kept in the background of the current trilogy. Solo will change this, revealing how Chewie and Han first met and bonded. It's a story that has been referenced a few times in the franchise, but now the canon will be set once and for all. It looks like his wife and/or children could also appear, which should give the fans a brand new side of Chewbacca. We'll just have to wait and see how they handle this dialogue.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will arrive in theaters on May 25th, and The Last Jedi is now available for home purchase. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
