Yes, Rambo's Got An Even Bigger Knife This Time Around
When Sylvester Stallone's John Rambo returns in Rambo 5, he will be something of a different Rambo than we are used to seeing. We've seen images of Sylvester Stallone on set in cowboy attire, reflecting the retired vet's new life working on a ranch. But fear not, this will still be the Rambo you know and love and as such the army of one will again be carrying perhaps his biggest knife yet. Check it out.
That is a big damn knife; if it were much longer and it would qualify for sword status. Sylvester Stallone calls Rambo's new knife the 'Heartstopper' and it looks like it could stop the heart of a dragon so if I had to guess he won't be slicing onions with it in the new movie.
Based on Sylvester Stallone's Instagram, that serious knife appears have been designed by Dietmar Pohl of Pohl Force Knives, and he definitely made a knife that looks worthy of the Rambo heritage. This actually marks a return to this type of giant fixed-blade knife for the character, after he used a makeshift machete in 2008's Rambo.
In his post, Sylvester Stallone also says "you just don't turn it off." I'm pretty sure that knife will turn off pretty much anything it touches but what Sly is actually referencing here is a line from First Blood, the 1982 film that started this series.
In that film, Col. Trautman is trying to convince Rambo to surrender, telling him that it's over, to which Rambo responds that it is not over and "you just don't turn it off." In saying this he was making it clear that although he wasn't the one who started this war and he didn't draw first blood, he will be the one to finish it.
The weary vet has shed his share of blood and just wants to live a quiet life, but once you've pushed him to the point where he's picking up that knife, there's no turning him off and you've just got to deal with the consequences. This doesn't bode particularly well for Rambo's enemies in what might be his last battle.
The plot of Rambo 5 will see the war vet crossing the border into Mexico to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a friend. This puts him in the path of a deadly cartel led by Sergio Peris-Mencheta's Hugo Martinez. Rambo 5 also stars Paz Vega as one of Rambo's allies in the film.
A release date has not been set for Rambo 5 but it is expected to draw blood sometime in 2019. That's just one of the many anticipated titles that should be heading to theaters next year. Check out some of the others in our 2019 release schedule.
