The Russo Brothers Are Having A Lot Of Fun With Mark Ruffalo's Avengers 4 Slip Up
Mark Ruffalo made some headlines recently regarding an alleged Avengers 4 spoiler he recently gave on television. Of course, he didn't really give anything away, but that's not stopping his Marvel colleagues from having fun with the idea. The Russo Brothers recently responded to Ruffalo's "spoiler" interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon by cutting the Hulk from the MCU. Check it out.
On the plus side, Mark Ruffalo had already filmed most or all of his scenes on Avengers 4 by this point, so if he was actually fired, it wouldn't have a major impact on the end of this Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Besides, for all we know, Bruce Banner doesn't make it out alive anyway. Maybe it's ok to fire Mark Ruffalo because he's already dead.
The story started last Friday when Mark Ruffalo tweeted a plea to Jimmy Fallon to cut his "spoiler slip" from the taping of that night's show. This, of course, got people talking as we all wondered exactly what might have happened on the set. As it turned out, it was all a big setup for a bit that saw Ruffalo spoil everything about the movie, except that it was all bleeped out so that nobody actually heard anything. No details were given, but that didn't stop the bit from being legitimately funny.
And now the bit is continuing with the Russo Brothers playful booting Mark Ruffalo from future Marvel movies. I guess that's what happens when you cross the bosses.
Part of the joke is that Mark Ruffalo, along with Tom Holland, has built something of a reputation as one of the people who tends to talk more than they're supposed to about Marvel movies. He actually revealed the ending of Avengers: Infinity War months before the movie came out and accidentally livestreamed a significant portion of Thor: Ragnarok before it was in theaters. Ruffalo jokes with Jimmy Fallon that Marvel is watching him because he has a tendency to give up more than he's supposed to.
Joking about spoilers may be one of the best possible ways to avoid actual spoilers. It keeps things light and prevents people from asking the sorts of questions that could result in actual spoilers. And right now Marvel is probably more worried about spoilers than they've ever been. With Avengers 4 around the corner, the stakes have never been higher for the characters of the MCU and that holds true for Marvel Studios as well. A spoiler revealed for Avengers 4 might not simply spoil the ending of the movie or a character's fate, but the future of the MCU. You can bet Marvel wants to keep everybody quiet right now.
Of course, things will only get harder from here. Right now, no details are being released. Shortly, we'll get a trailer that will give us something and once we all have that it will be harder for the cast to not say anything. Who will be the first to crack?
