First Look At Leonardo DiCaprio In Sixties Orange For Quentin Tarantinos Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
We're still over a year away from Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, but the past two months have seen things really begin to ramp up as more and more names have been added to the already sublime cast. Quentin Tarantino's ninth feature stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as a former Western star and his stunt double struggling to make it in a changing Hollywood in 1969. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has begun filming, and we now have our first look at the two leads looking resplendent in their sixties best. Take a look.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is set during the height of hippy Hollywood, and these two certainly fit right in. Leonardo DiCaprio's Rick Dalton looks every bit the suave and clean cut TV star in his extremely bold sixties yellow shirt, with a color combination not seen in decades outside of The Office's Dwight Schrute. Opposite Rick Dalton is Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth, rocking the Canadian Tuxedo and sunglasses, giving off an effortless cowboy kind of cool. He also looks like the kind of daring risk-taker that you would want from a stunt man in the 1960's, when there was even more danger to such a position. It might sound kind of silly, but seeing these two in character, they just look like they belong in a Tarantino movie.
Quentin Tarantino has stressed that this isn't a Charles Manson movie. Even though Margot Robbie will be playing Sharon Tate, it's about 1969 in Hollywood, and the director is definitely evoking that era with the costumes. I imagine that as we see more from the film, the time period and focus will become more evident. Since this is 1969 at the height of hippydom, I'm guessing there will be plenty of peace signs, headbands and tie-dye in this movie.
We still don't know a ton about this upcoming film, but seeing Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in character together, I get a sense of how different these two characters are, and how they present themselves to the world. I can imagine that as a former TV star, perhaps struggling to find work, Rick Dalton is still trying to maintain a certain image and present himself as a success. On the other hand Cliff Booth comes off as more of a rebellious figure, perhaps even less willing to change along with the rest of Hollywood. That's just speculation, but based on this image alone, there's plenty of excitement and anticipation building for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to arrive in theaters.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and releases in theaters on August 9, 2019. That's a ways off, but fortunately there are plenty of other movies worth seeing in the interim. You can check out the biggest ones coming in 2018 on our release schedule.
