Marvel Just Carved Out A Ton Of Phase 4 Release Dates
Fans are acutely aware that all of the details surrounding Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are currently being kept under wraps - but that doesn't mean that the franchise doesn't have some huge plans going forward. In fact, they've now carved out release dates for three years-worth of new titles, which is a full list you can take a look at below:
May 1, 2020 July 31, 2020 (moved from August 7, 2020) November 6, 2020 May 7, 2021 July 30, 2021 November 5, 2021 February 18, 2022 May 6, 2022 July 29, 2022
Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will end with the untitled Avengers 4 in May 2019, and Phase 4 will kick off with the untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel that is scheduled for July 5, 2019 - but beyond that the slate has basically been completely clear. That changed today, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing seven of the nine dates that will be occupied by Marvel Studios productions been now and 2022. Of course, we can't say for certain what all of these projects will be right now, but we can speculate.
Right now, other than the next Spider-Man movie the only other title that we know Marvel Studios is developing is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - and James Gunn has confirmed that the film will be coming out at some point in 2020. So that takes one date off the board, leaving us with eight more to assign (albeit with much less information available to go on).
To start with sequels, it's pretty easy to guess that Black Panther will get a follow-up thanks to its insane box office success, so that brings us to seven. Doctor Strange was certainly popular enough to earn a sequel, which makes it a candidate to occupy one of the dates, and it's hard to imagine Marvel not creating a complete Ant-Man/Ant-Man & The Wasp trilogy. Sight unseen we can probably count on eventually getting a Captain Marvel 2 as well, and if we assume that Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor are all done as series, there are four spots left.
That leaves space for new solo titles, as well as huge team-ups - but those specifics are easily the biggest secrets currently being held by Marvel. There has been some discussion about Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow getting her own big screen adventure, which would leave us with three mystery dates left, but it would be impossible to seriously guess anything else given the breadth of the Marvel Universe. Still, if you're a Marvel fan, all of this must sound terribly exciting.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said that Phase 4 titles probably won't be announced until after the release of Avengers 4 in 2019 - and we'll be waiting with bated breath.
