Sonys Spider-Man Spinoff Silver And Black Has Hit A Setback
Along with joining forces with Marvel Studios to feature Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony Pictures is also establishing its own Spidey-centric universe on the side. The first of these movies, Venom, hits theaters later this year, and the next one to follow will be Silver & Black, starring Black Cat and Silver Sable. While it looked like this movie was preparing to roll cameras soon, now there's word that Silver & Black's production has been delayed indefinitely.
Although it was originally reported that Silver & Black would begin principal photography in early March, the folks over at That Hashtag Show have heard from a source that Sony has hit the pause button on Black Cat and Silver Sable's cinematic adventure, with no new start date slated. It's worth clarifying that just because production won't begin as originally planned doesn't mean that the movie has been scrapped. Sony may decide to simply move Silver & Black's production down a few weeks or months, but for now, it's unclear when things will pick back up.
Hearing that Silver & Black's filming hasn't been delayed isn't entirely surprising. Along with no casting news regarding who will play the big screen versions of Black Cat and Silver Sable, it was reported last week that writers Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are tackling Silver & Black's latest draft. Making slight adjustments to a script while cameras are rolling isn't unheard of, but to work on an entire draft right before shooting is set to begin is downright crazy. Still, if new pairs of eyes results in Silver & Black being turned into a better movie, then a production delay is certainly worth it.
Black Cat and Silver Sable have been longtime players in the Spider-Man mythology, with both switching back and forth between being the Wall-Crawler's adversary and ally. While no official details for Silver & Black have come forth yet, rumor has it that the story will involve Silver Sable, a Symkarian mercenary, trying to apprehend Black Cat, a notorious jewel thief, as a way to find the main antagonist, Mendel Stromm. However, Stromm has supposedly sent Spider-Man villains Scorpion and Tarantula to capture Black Cat on his behalf. It's also rumored that Norman Osborn will be heard, but not seen, in Silver & Black.
With Gina Prince Bythewood attached as director, Silver & Black is still scheduled for release on February 8, 2019, though with this production delay, it's possible that the movie will be pushed down on the calendar. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more news on what's happening with Silver & Black. In the meantime, Venom hits theaters on October 5, but before that, Tom Holland's Spider-Man will swing back into action for Avengers: Infinity War on May 4.
